National Drug Authority (NDA), has close a total of 180 pharmacies employing unqualified personal and operating with out licences in western Uganda. The development was revealed by NDA spokesperson Abiaz Rwamwiri during a press conference.

Rwamwiri said that the development comes after the national regulator conducted a five day compliance enforcement operation to fish out illegal drug outlets in 6 districts of Kyankwanzi, Hoima, Kyenjojo, Masindi, Kikube and Kiryandongo.

He also added that as a result, NDA was also able to impound 416 boxes of assorted medicines worth over 115, 600, 000/= Ugandan Shillings.

He stressed that the operation is inline with NDA’s mandate to protect and promote public health through effective regulation of human and animal medicines and health care products.
